Oil Spill May Effect Restaurants, Hotels & Casinos
Just as the businesses from the Gulf Coast States were seeing progress in their recovery from Hurricane Katrina, another disaster has pushed them backwards. The BP oil spill that began on April 20 has continued to leak over 4 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Besides the physical damage being done to the ecosystem, the region’s economy is expecting a major hit to their commerce.
The damage caused by the spill is proving to have a ripple affect across the entire region. Businesses are concerned that potential visitors are apprehensive about the risk of their vacations being affected by the oil spill. The Gulf Coast’s economy heavily relies on a $20 billion tourism industry that directs lots of business to hotels, restaurants and casinos.
Owners and workers are worried that the news coverage will deter visitors from their hotels, restaurants and casinos so they are fighting back. Tourism officials are working hard to challenge the possible ramifications on the economy. An advertising campaign is already in place to assure potential visitors that the oil slick is not going to play any factor during their stay in Gulf destinations.
Casinos in Mississippi are considered to be one of the biggest tourist draws in the region. There are 13 casinos operating in the state and they are located close enough to the coast to be threatened from the impact of the oil spill. Some tourism officials fear that the flow of gamblers who usually enjoy playing at Mississippi casinos will choose to stay at home and play at online casinos. Director of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau, Richard Forester is remaining positive saying, “there won’t be any oil in the casinos or on the golf courses.” Only time will tell how hard the Gulf Coast States are affected this summer. The entire tourism industry is hoping for the best.

For Fun Holidays Rhodes Can’t be Topped
I love getting away for a while and for my holidays Rhodes is one of the places I most often choose when I can grab a week or a fortnight off and someone volunteers to feed the cat for me.
When I mention this people often ask me if I get bored of the beach. There are really two answers to the question. The first one is that getting bored of the beach is not something I could ever do even if I lived on it and wasn’t allowed off it ever. Being on the hot sand and watching the waves is one of the finest experiences you can have in my experience.
Lots More to Do As Well
Perhaps even more important than my beach fixation is that for top holidays Rhodes offers a lot more than just sand and sea anyway. I like a dose of culture as much as the next man, provided that he isn’t wearing a cravat and carrying opera glasses. In Rhodes I can see some amazing heritage which proves that this has been an important region for a long time.
During my summer holidays Rhodes has also offered me trips to the cinema, some shopping, a concert or two and even a cheeky cocktail or three. Did I mention that I also spent some time on the beach?
The Trends of China’s Hotel Industry in 2009
2009 year is a year of both opportunities and challenges to China’s hotel industry. The financial crisis will further expand, it is a big challenge to China’s hotel industry, while the industry “shuffling period” has also brought development opportunities to countless China hotels. The development of the economy hotels and tourism hotels in 2009 will emerge a different situation.
Economy hotels: they are good hotels if they can remain in the financial crisis.
As the financial crisis continues to expand, the guests have reduced and the rates of hotel occupancy are lower, the economy hotels have also started to feel “cold”. Recently, seven days chain hotel, Rujia, Jinjiang star and other hotels have also launched a variety of disguised price cuts promotional strategies, and it is said to be the sharpest discount over the years.
However, the vice president of China Tourism Research Institute Dai Bin said that, at present the economy hotels account for 10% to 20% in the total hotels proportion, which is far below the United States and European countries, an average of 60% to 70%. For the long run, the business volume of economy affect smaller than star hotels in China, due to the price advantages, and instead China economy hotels will face a new round of development opportunities. The economy hotels should seek a breakthrough in innovative service and open market segments.
China Market Research Group expects that the revenues of China’s economy hotels will increase by 12% to 15%.
In 2009, the competition between economy hotels is still the competition of brand, service, operate capacity and cost control. The hotels remained are good hotels in economy hotels.
Tourism hotels: the outlook is still broad
From the view of the entire economy, tourism has a bright future, and it is predicted that in 2010 China will replace Spain to the second place, surpass France and move up to the first place in 2020. The United Nations World Tourism Organization predicts that by 2015 China will become the No.1 tourist receiving country, and the fourth largest tourist source country in the world. The tourism industry is an important part of stimulating domestic demands.
What’s the most important is that the development of China tourism is bound to drive the development of China’s hotels.
China property hotels.
