Best New Travel Camera – Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 Looks Like A True Player

Looking for a travel camera? One that does not require a sidecar to carry all the extra gear needed to get the picture you want? The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX40 deserves a hard look.

Panasonic seems to be able to produce excellent compact cameras. They do pretty well in the DSLR market, too, but their forte is compacts.

The engineers at Panasonic have been working hard on improving the technology needed to pair zoom with excellent image quality. It’s not easy to get both.

So when you see the user ratings for the newest “travel camera”, you kind of do a double-take. The camera only came out in July, so the technology is the newest possible, but so far there is not one negative rating. Usually there will be one or two who either had a faulty camera or just had a bad day when they first tested it, but in this case… nada… nothing negative.

So what makes this camera a travel camera?

Basically, what you want in a camera on vacation is the ability to take almost any type of photo. From family portraits to street scenes, to nature shots where a super zoom is necessary. You name it, and you want to be able to take it.

With a wide angle equivalent of 25mm and a telephoto equivalent of 600mm (if you do the math, that is 24X), the Lumix FZ40 qualifies on all counts.

Then you add in the new technology that is being called “intelligent resolution technology” for sharp images, and you have a winner in the travel camera category.

Another plus is the lens which is manufactured by Leica, a trusted name in camera and lens quality.

Having used DSLR cameras for quite some time, the benefits I like best are the choice between viewing your image in a view finder or on the live view LCD panel. Plus the option to use the jpeg creative settings for image output or capturing in RAW for a higher resolution picture that can be edited later on your computer.

The high quality LCD screen is excellent for use with the HD video feature. And, speaking of video, the 24X zoom means getting close up video of distant places and activities.

Find out about visas before making trips to Israel

There are many reasons why you might want to make trips to Israel. After all, this interesting, modern country has a lot to offer tourists and those doing business in Israel.

However, before you embark on your journey, it may be necessary for you to pick up a special visa and, if you fail to look into this issue, you could end up experiencing complications and not being able to make the trip as you intended.

The Israeli Embassy London’s website can provide all the information you need regarding visas and travel information to Israel. The website and the Embassy staff can direct you to any necessary paperwork if required.

For short-term trips, you may need a B/2 Visitor’s visa. This is granted to people who wish to stay in the country for a holiday, on business or to study in a Hebrew ulpan. If you use one of these visas, you will not be able to enter into employment while in Israel.

These visas are valid for up to three months from the date of issue, so you must time when you get them correctly. And, if you wish to extend you stay while in the country, you may submit an application at one of the regional population administration offices of the Ministry of the Interior.

Via the website of the Israeli Embassy in London, you can download an application for a visa, and you can also access more information concerning visa requirements for Israel.

The Best Travel Websites For Cheap Airfares

Finding cheap airfares is easy to do if you follow some basic guidelines and use the best travel sites. With the internet anyone can be their own travel agent and save themselves a lot of money in the process. Before I touch on the best websites to use I will first go over the most important guidelines to be thinking about before you start doing your online searches for the cheapest airfares.

The first thing to think about is how far in advance should you try to book your ticket. If you will be flying in high season then the earlier the better, probably at least three or four months in advance if at all possible. If it will not be high season then typically you can get your best deals somewhere between six to eight weeks in advance. At a minimum you should try to buy your ticket at least three weeks in advance, because this is often a requirement by the airlines to get their best fares.

The next thing to be aware of is that you should be as flexible as you possibly can. Do searches for different dates if your schedule allows it, Read the rest of this entry »

The Best Travel Toiletries Bag and Organizer

Traveling can stink when you have to pack up, and get ready for the trip. While getting ready for the trip can be exciting, the packing part can be rather overwhelming. What you’re going to find out is that 99% of the time you’re going to forget something such as toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. If you’re looking to bring toiletries on board, there are some things that you’re going to have to remember, as well as what you can bring, in order to store them.

Are you checking in, or using carry on luggage?

The first thing that you want to ask yourself is if you’re going to bring your luggage on the plane, or are you going to check it in? The reason I ask this is because you’re going to be limited, when you bring your luggage on board with your liquids. Generally, you’re only allowed to bring liquids under 3 ounces, and trust me, this isn’t a lot.

What to bring:

Remember that you’re going to want to think of where you’re going. If you’re going to go to a hotel, you will find that they will have just about everything. The thing that you’re going to want to bring the items that you needs such as your toothpaste and more. But what you will find is that many want to over think such as bringing toilet paper, and more. Do you really need this?

The bags that you should consider:

There are many bags on the market that you can consider, and while some will equip you with items that you need, you will find that some just equip you with empty containers. A typical bag will cost you around $5 to $20, and I recommend the following brands, when you want to purchase one:

The Best Travel Pillows

Anyone going on a long term car, train, or plane ride knows the difficulty of falling asleep or even getting comfortable in cramped seating. Those with bone or joint issues are especially vulnerable for suffering pain or even damage from extensive time spent in confined areas. There are several companies that market travel pillow models in order to reduce strain on the neck and upper back, most of which cost under $50 and can be found in nearly any retail store.

Travel pillows are primarily used for neck support, curling around the bottom of the skull and cushioning the head rather than forcing your head to lean against uncomfortable and poorly sized head rests. A travel pillow often helps a customer fall asleep on an extended trip, as they do not need to support their head on the side of a metal or plastic window in order to get comfortable, simply relying on the cushioning about their upper spine.

Many travel pillow designs are specifically meant for muscle rehabilitation and feature extensive support as well as specific cushioning around individual bones in the neck; these may require a prescription to purchase and can cost upwards of Read the rest of this entry »

Best and Worst Times to Travel to Europe

When planning your European trip, check your arrival and departures dates and see if they take into account peak, off-peak and shoulder travel periods.

Peak periods are the times when majority of travelers fly in and out of countries and these periods usually coincide with school holidays, Christmas, Easter and New Year. The country you are flying into will also have peak periods unique to that country, so expect flights and accommodation to be heavily booked and tickets to be more expensive. This peak period generally covers late December to January (because of the Christmas season) and late June to the end of August (summer break). Travel during the Christmas holidays can be difficult as plane ticket prices soar and ski resorts start overcharging. Public transport is also reduced in most areas since only a few trains will leave on Christmas day. The “shoulder period” is in spring and autumn and the low or “off-peak” periods are usually in the remaining months and in the winter.

If you have only a limited time to see Europe, your best bet is to fly in and out during a shoulder period. Prices are almost at their lowest and travel conditions are great because you can avoid the crowds and the overpricing. If you have a lot of time to spare in Europe, try flying in the low season when fares are cheapest so you have more money to spread over your stay. It’s always a good idea to start checking airfares 3-4 months before you leave. Airlines are starting to discount in order to reward early bookers and there’s a lot time to wait if you think they’re too high. The cheapest ticket prices might turn up on the net or at your ticket office at anytime. And while you’re at it, make sure you’ve already reserved your accommodation 6 weeks to 2 months before you leave. It’s a good idea to reserve a hotel for your arrival and departure days. The rest can be reserved afterwards. Also, remember to check for travel dangers and updates. Your government and insurance company might draw the line if you visit a certain territory they’ve warned you about. Be informed about the dangers and uprisings in the country you are visiting and do last-minute updates to check conditions right before you leave.

For most seasoned travelers, the best time to see Europe is from April to June and September to October when the weather is still warm, the holiday crowds have left and accommodation and transport are regularly priced.

In contrast, the single worst time to visit most parts of Europe (especially the western and southern countries) is the month of August. This is when many Europeans leave and take their holidays in nearby countries as well. The cities can be deserted and as a result, accommodation prices shoot up and finding a bed can be very difficult. Buses and trains will often be packed and it can be a struggle to get a seat while you cross countries. Even most tourist shops and sites can be closed because the proprietors have gone on holiday as well! There’s little doubt that July and August are the busiest tourist months in Europe (mainly because of Americans on vacation) and it will require a lot of patience and money. Avoid these months as much as you can. If you really must travel in the high season, your best course of action is to stay away from the major cities and choose the off-track towns and villages and indulge in the local culture.
